Organizations
Organizations let you group team members under a shared billing account and manage access at the organizational level. Create an organization and invite your team.
Creating an Organization
Set up a new organization to bring your team under shared billing and access control.
Setup steps
- Navigate to Settings > Organization and click "Create Organization."
- Enter your organization name, billing email, and country.
- Choose a billing frequency — monthly or annual (annual saves ~17%).
- Set the initial seat count for your team.
- Review the trial details and confirm to create the organization.
During the free trial the maximum seat count is 10. You can increase seats after subscribing.
Members
Everyone who works on your organization's projects is a member of the organization. Settings → Organization → Members lists every person: how much of the organization they can see (their organization role), the projects they are on with their role there, and the invitations still waiting to be accepted. An Owner or Admin changes any of that from the list: organization roles (an Admin cannot change an Owner, and the organization always keeps at least one Owner), project roles, adding someone to a project, removing them from the organization, and withdrawing an invitation. Each person's Dev and voice allowance is under Settings → Usage & limits → People.
Roles
Two things are decided separately: how far someone can reach in the organization, and what they can do on a project.
Organization roles — reach
- Owner — everything, including billing, deleting or transferring the organization, and assigning roles.
- Admin — manages members, billing, Usage & limits and projects. Cannot delete or transfer the organization.
- Member — belongs to the organization and can open every project marked Available to everyone. Cannot create projects.
- Guest — belongs to the organization but sees only the projects they were added to. No organization settings, no balance or spend, no member list. Use it for a client's people or an outside contractor.
Owners and admins can open and manage every project in the organization, including invite-only ones.
Project roles — power
- Viewer — sees everything and takes part in the conversation. Cannot change the record.
- Contributor — adds to the record: items, memories, artifacts and work. Changes to what is settled are proposed for a maintainer to accept.
- Maintainer — can overrule the record, accepts proposals and manages the project's members.
The two are independent: an organization member can be a viewer on one project, and a guest can be a contributor on theirs. The project's Members page shows each person's project role and, for guests, that their access is limited to the projects they were added to.
What each role means opens the full list — every organization role, every project role, and what each may do — from the invite form, from any Members page, and from Settings → Usage & limits → People.
Inviting People
One form does both planes. From a project's Members page (or from the Organization page, where you also pick the project), enter an email address and answer two questions:
- Email addresses. Paste as many as you like. Commas, spaces or new lines all work, and a mail client's "Name <address>" is understood. Each address becomes a chip; one that is not an address is flagged and skipped without holding up the rest.
- How much of the organization can they see? Member or Guest, each with its one-sentence meaning. Owner and Admin are not invitation roles: once someone has joined, an Owner grants them from the Members page.
- Which projects, and what can they do there? One row per project: pick the project and a role (Maintainer, Contributor or Viewer), then Add another project for the next. A Guest needs at least one project; a Member may have none for now. The full capability table for both planes is one click away before you choose anything.
A summary line shows what is about to happen. After sending, you get one line per address:
- Someone new to DevSpec is invited: they get one email to join, and when they accept they land in the organization with the reach you chose and on every project with the role you chose. You can withdraw the invitation from the same list.
- Someone who already has a DevSpec account but is not in your organization joins straight away, with no email.
- Someone already in your organization is added to the projects straight away.
- Someone already in your organization and already on those projects needs nothing.
- An address the organization's invite policy does not allow is not sent, with the reason.
Pending invitations are listed on the Members page with a Withdraw control. Only an organization admin can make someone a Member; a project maintainer who is not an organization admin can invite people to their project as Guests.
Leaving
Anyone can leave an organization from Settings → Organization → Your membership. You lose access to its projects straight away, and any agent you run on them is disconnected; an Owner or Admin can invite you back. The organization's only Owner cannot leave: transfer ownership first, or delete the organization.
Transfer Ownership
The Owner hands the organization to another member from Settings → Organization → Your membership → Transfer ownership.
- Only the current Owner can transfer.
- Choose any other member; they become the Owner and you become an Admin.
- An Owner can also make a second Owner from the Members page without stepping down.
The new Owner has full control, including transferring it back.
Exporting the Organization's Data
An Owner can take a copy of everything the organization owns from Settings → Organization → Request the organization's export: every project and repository record, action items with their history, memories, artifacts as markdown, uploaded documents, every room with every participant's messages and attachments, discussion points, plans, polls, goals, features, automations, members and roles, and the ledger. It is prepared in the background; you are notified when it is ready and the download works for 7 days. Large exports arrive as numbered parts, each a complete zip.
Deleting the Organization
An Owner deletes the organization from Settings → Organization → Delete organization, typing its name to confirm. Its projects, rooms, files and search indexes are removed for everyone in it; its payment history is kept. Your only organization cannot be deleted on its own: closing your account (Settings → Data & Privacy) is the way to remove it.
Organization Settings
Organization settings are split by what they are for:
- Organization — the organization's name and logo, your own membership (Leave, or Transfer ownership if you are the Owner), the organization's data export, and Delete.
- Members — everyone in the organization, their roles, the projects they are on, and pending invitations.
- Billing — money only: the balance, adding funds, the saved card, auto top-up and the billing contact.
- Usage & limits — how the balance may be used. The Dev & voice share caps how much of the balance Dev and voice may use (everything the project runs itself may use all of it). People sets an allowance per person and turns Dev and voice on or off for each. Projects sets a limit per project per period. Spend shows what the balance is going on and where it is heading. Every figure on this page is a ceiling, not a budget: setting one spends nothing, and the limits do not add up to a bill.
- Connections — the organization's integrations.
Only owners and admins see Billing and Usage & limits.
